As opposed to what -- nasty, fermented egg, the kind one naturally would assume Tris would pass off?

Note: I saw the movie and while searching the net, I learned that it is an adaptation from the book. I wanted to compare if the movie is not a bastardized version of the book so I searched for the book. So far, so good!
